Privacy policy

Effective 19 September 2026

The short version: everything you add to Your Blue Book — names, contacts, documents, wishes, memories, photos, audio and video — is stored only on your own device. We don't run any servers for this app, we don't collect your information, and we can't see it. There's no account, no login and no sign-up — the people you add are simply entries inside your own Blue Book, not accounts.

Who we are

Your Blue Book is made by Kytra Analytics Limited ("Kytra", "we", "us"), a company registered in Scotland. Our registered number and office are on the about Kytra page.

What the app stores, and where

Depending on what you choose to fill in, Your Blue Book can hold:

Your Blue Book runs on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and on Android phones and tablets. All of this is saved using your device's own built-in storage — Apple's on iPhone, iPad and Mac, and Android's on Android — inside the app's own private storage area on your device. It stays there unless you choose to back it up, print it or share it yourself, send shared items to someone, or leave a locked copy with someone.

Backups

Because this data lives in the app's normal storage area, it may be included in backups you make of your own device. On iPhone and iPad, that means an iCloud backup or a backup to your computer. On a Mac, it means a Time Machine backup. On Android, your Google account's backup keeps your written entries and settings, but not photos, audio or video — Google limits each app's backup to 25 MB, which recordings would soon fill. On Android 12 and later, moving to a new phone with Android's phone-to-phone transfer brings everything across, recordings included. Your Blue Book PIN and the codes for any locked copies you've made are never copied on Android: they're locked to the phone they were made on.

If you have that kind of backup turned on, a copy may exist in your own iCloud or Google account. Either way, those backups are managed by Apple or Google and by you, not by Kytra — we don't have access to them. The one copy that always has everything is a Blue Book backup, described below.

Sharing, backing up and locked copies

Some features let you actively share your information — printing, sending a PDF, sharing a message with the person you wrote it for, or leaving a locked (encrypted) copy of your Blue Book and Essentials with someone you trust, which only opens with the code you give them. These use your device's standard share sheet, so the options you see (AirDrop, Messages, Mail, iCloud Drive on iPhone, iPad and Mac; Gmail, Google Drive, Messages and so on Android) simply reflect what's set up on your own device — nothing is preconfigured or set up by us. Sharing only ever happens when you choose to trigger it, and the resulting file goes wherever you send it, outside of anything Kytra can see.

You can also send chosen people, pets and Essentials items to someone else's Blue Book — for example, a partner's. Only the things you've marked to share and chosen for that file go into it, which is locked (encrypted) and only opens with the code the app shows you; you tell the other person that code yourself. If you've filled something in for them, you can hand it over instead: it leaves your Blue Book once the file is made, and you remove it from your device when they've added it. When someone sends you a file like this, nothing is added to your Blue Book until you've typed in the code, seen what's in it, and chosen to add it.

Getting a full copy of your data

At any time, free of charge, you can back up a complete copy of everything in your Blue Book — as a plain, machine-readable file (JSON) plus your original photos, audio and video — from within the app. It's there so your information is never trapped in the app, even if you stop using it or we stop supporting it. You can also bring one of these backups back in, on iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android, whichever device it was made on — so you can move your Blue Book to a new phone, or between iPhone and Android.

Emergency access

If you give someone an emergency code, your device keeps only a scrambled form of it, never the code itself. When someone types in a code, the app scrambles it the same way and checks for a match, but the original code can't be worked out from what's stored. Emergency access only works from your own unlocked device, with Blue Book installed; it is not a remote or cloud-based recovery process, and Kytra has no way to grant, see, or reset access on your behalf.

In-app purchases

The one-off unlock is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store, or by Google through Google Play Billing, depending on where you downloaded the app. We never receive your card details or full payment information — Apple or Google only tells the app that a purchase was completed, so it can unlock the relevant features. A purchase stays with the store it was made in: an unlock bought on iPhone can't be restored on Android, or the other way round.

Permissions the app may ask for

Speech recognition and biometric authentication are handled directly by your device's own built-in systems (Apple's or Android's). None of this is sent to Kytra.

When you add a photo of a person, Blue Book may use your device's built-in face detection to centre the picture on their face. This happens entirely on your device: only the framed photo is kept, and no information about faces is stored or sent anywhere.

The Android app doesn't have permission to use the internet at all. Purchases go through the Google Play app on your phone, which does its own networking.

What we do collect

The only personal data Kytra ever receives is what you choose to send us directly — for example, if you email us for support, we'll have your email address, any name you give us, and the content of your message. Kytra Analytics Limited is the data controller for these emails.

We use them only to reply to you and help with your question. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests: when you write to us, we have a legitimate interest in answering you. We don't use them for marketing and don't share them with anyone else; like any email, they're stored for us by our email provider, which can't use them for anything of its own.

We keep support emails for two years after we last hear from you, so we can help if the same problem comes back, and then delete them. If you'd like yours deleted sooner, just ask.

Analytics, tracking and third parties

Your Blue Book contains no analytics, advertising or tracking software, and no third-party services beyond the App Store or Google Play and each platform's own operating-system frameworks.

The website

The Your Blue Book website, and these privacy and support pages, have no analytics, cookies or tracking, and load nothing from other companies: even the fonts come from kytra.uk itself. Like any website, it's hosted by a provider, Microsoft Azure, whose servers see your IP address in order to send you the page.

Deleting your data

Because everything is stored on your device, you're always in control. Deleting an entry in the app deletes it immediately; deleting the app removes everything Blue Book has stored on your device (aside from anything already included in a device backup or a Blue Book backup you've made). If you'd like a copy for your own records first, see "Getting a full copy of your data" above.

Children's privacy

Your Blue Book isn't directed at, or knowingly used by, children.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, and to object to our using it or ask us to limit how we use it. The only personal data we hold is support emails: for any of these, write to us — the address is on the about Kytra page. Everything in the app itself is only on your device, so you can see, change, back up or delete it yourself at any time — we have no copy of it.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we'll update the effective date above and post the new version here.
